SEASON PREVIEW: Bath Philharmonia Avec Orgue
Debussy, Prelude a l'apres-midi d'un faune
Poulenc, Organ Concerto
Saint-Saens, Symphony No.3 'Organ Symphony'
Bath Philharmonia, in partnership with Bath Abbey, opens the 2016/17 season with a concert that's designed to pull out all the stops and lift the roof on our new season. The Abbey's mighty Klais Organ is about to go under wraps for several years to protect it from the dust and building work during the Abbey Footprint Project. In celebration of this wonderful instrument, the orchestra will explore the colour and virtuosity of Poulenc's Organ Concerto as well as Saint-Saen's Organ Symphony- the epitome of french grandeur. To open the concert will be Debussy's atmosphereic l'apres midi d'un Faune- which no French programme should be without!
The orchestra is thrilled to be joined by the city's resident organist Shean Bowers. Originally from Liverpool, Shean is a former scholar at Chethams School of Music, and has studied at the Royal Academy of Music, Liverpool University and Royal Northern College of Music. He is currently Acting Director of Music and Choral Director for Schools at Bath Abbey.
