Launching Bath Phil’s inaugural Autumn/Winter Series is one
of Britain’s brightest young talents. Nicola Benedetti joins Bath
Phil for her first concerto appearance in the city with Ravel’s
gypsy-influenced mini concerto Tzigane, alongside Dvoˇrák’s
gloriously evocative Romance. Bath Phil explores the influence
on Mozart of Ravel’s and Dvoˇrák’s home cities, with his Paris
and Prague symphonies. A concert of sophisticated beauty.

Bath Spa Band will be playing in The Forum auditorium from
7.15-7.45pm as a warm-up prior the main concert.
Performing with: Fodens Brass Band

Joining Bath Phil in a unique collaboration is British Brass Band
National Champions Fodens. Renowned for their exceptional
virtuosity and musicianship, it will be Fodens’ first visit to Bath.
Scored for a huge array of brass, Janácek’s masterpiece Sinfonietta
will be performed by the combined forces of Bath Phil and Fodens,
alongside Beethoven’s glorious 8th Symphony & classics from the
Brass Band repertoire. Expect magnificent virtuosic enormity.

Soloist: Ruth Palmer - Violin

Location: Bath Abbey
Winner of the Classical Brits Young Artist of the Year 2007, Ruth
Palmer is an astonishing musician. Credited for an outstanding
debut disc of Shostakovich she also makes her concerto debut
in the city with Bath Phil in Barber’s sumptuous Violin Concerto.
Mozart 39 has always fascinated Jason Thornton and he presents
it for the first time in this performance. A programme of passion
as well as fire.

Bath Phil’s Principal Guest Conductor and world class musician,
Peter Donohoe, presents arguably two of England’s greatest 20th century
composers, Elgar and Vaughan Williams, along with their
most influential contemporaries. The English masterpieces frame
a programme of love, passion, and sheer exquisite romanticism
from across Europe.
